Artists & Artisans

1. Helena Emmans
Check out the picture of her spoons next to the picture of the "Broighter Boat" in gold from c 100 BC in the
   National Museum of Ireland!
"Everything old is new again" There is something very elemental, graceful and
   wonderfully simple about her work.

2. James Hanley
A gentleman and a character in addition to being a towering talent.  (He also does a shockingly convincing
voice imitation of a very prominent and current Irish political figure....if you meet him ask him for a sample!)
3. Jimmy Lawlor
I just have to smile when I see his work. Wexford, Ireland born former Disney animator....clearly with a sense
    of humor.

4. Joseph Walsh
What a talent.....oh my gosh! And a quiet, thoughtful, humble one at that...the pictures speak for themselves.

5. Martin Blank
Never heard of him before a month ago but eager to learn more about this incredible glass artist.
6. Miseon Lee
What a story and what a talent! Born in Korea, settled for a long time in Limerick, now resident in Dublin.
She was recently shortlisted for the Hennessy Prize at the National Gallery in Dublin. Quiet, genial,
    confident and meticulous.
In the same way as I consider myself "Irish-American", she considered herself
"Korean-Irish", a rich and interesting juxtaposition to contemplate that would have been unheard of 20 years
     ago.
Here is a link to an Irish Arts Review article by James Hanley (the same James from the same list...)

7. National Museum of Ireland
I can hardly believe that I have not been there until this past Fall. What a treat and a revelation!
8. Paul Lange
Wonderful talent.....just now learning about him! Great eye for detail and personality of things he
    photographs.
9. Rowan Gillespie
Wow, where does one start? Well-known and highly regarded with good reason. Again, like the others on
this list whom I have met,
a humble, straightforward gentleman unaffected by his fame.
10. Tortie Hoare
Just learning about this artisan but, like Helena Emmans, there is something rich and compelling in the
      simple, elegant conceptions and
crafts-womanship. Eager to know more...
